
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic General Counsel to join our executive team and lead the legal function at our fast-growing biotechnology company. The General Counsel will be responsible for all legal affairs of the organization, providing expert legal advice to the Board, executive leadership, and internal departments while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
The ideal candidate will have deep experience in the life sciences, biotech, or pharmaceutical industry, and be comfortable navigating complex regulatory landscapes, intellectual property matters, licensing agreements, and strategic partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:

Serve as the principal legal advisor to the company’s executive leadership and Board of Directors.

Oversee and manage all legal aspects of business operations, including corporate governance, commercial contracts, employment law, and litigation.

Advise on FDA, EMA, and other regulatory compliance matters affecting clinical trials, product development, marketing, and distribution.

Lead legal due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, financings, and strategic partnerships.

Manage the company’s intellectual property portfolio in collaboration with external IP counsel, including patents, trademarks, and trade secrets.

Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial contracts, including licensing, collaboration, manufacturing, and research agreements.

Monitor legal trends, regulatory changes, and industry best practices to proactively manage risk and ensure compliance.

Manage relationships with external legal counsel and ensure cost-effective legal support.

Develop and implement company-wide legal policies, training, and risk mitigation strategies.
Qualifications:

J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

10+ years of legal experience, with at least 5 years in-house in the biotech, pharmaceutical, or life sciences sector.

Demonstrated expertise in regulatory law (FDA, EMA), intellectual property, corporate law, and contract negotiation.

Strong knowledge of clinical development, licensing, compliance, and commercial operations within the biotech space.

Proven ability to work cross-functionally and advise multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

High level of integrity, professional judgment, and strategic thinking.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience supporting venture-backed or publicly traded biotech companies.

Familiarity with international regulatory frameworks and global clinical trials.

Prior experience scaling legal functions at an emerging growth company.
