Job Title: Safety Specialist / Manager– Power Plant Services (Refractory, Insulation, Scaffolding)
Introduction:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Safety Specialist / Manager to join our team and oversee safety practices for power plant services, specifically focusing on refractory, insulation, and scaffolding projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations while maintaining a safe work environment for all personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Management:
- Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures specific to power plant services, including refractory, insulation, and scaffolding.
- Conduct safety audits and site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken.
- Monitor and analyze safety trends, accident reports, and near-miss incidents to mitigate risks.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards applicable to power plant services.
- Risk Assessment & Hazard Control:
- Perform regular risk assessments and hazard analyses for refractory, insulation, and scaffolding activities.
- Recommend and implement risk control measures and safety precautions, such as personal protective equipment (PPE), scaffolding safety, and fire prevention protocols.
- Ensure that safety measures are integrated into the planning and execution of projects.
- Training & Education:
- Conduct safety training sessions and workshops for workers involved in refractory, insulation, and scaffolding activities, covering topics such as hazard recognition, PPE use, emergency response, and safe work practices.
- Continuously educate team members on safety policies, best practices, and regulatory updates.
- Develop safety manuals, work instructions, and job safety analysis (JSAs) for site-specific tasks.
- Incident Investigation & Reporting:
- Lead investigations into safety incidents, accidents, and near misses to identify root causes and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain detailed incident records and ensure proper documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Compliance & Documentation:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of OSHA standards and other relevant regulations pertaining to the power plant industry.
- Ensure that all safety documentation (permits, audits, training records, inspections) is properly maintained and easily accessible.
- Prepare safety reports and communicate safety performance metrics to management and regulatory bodies as required.
- Safety Culture Promotion:
- Foster a strong safety culture across all levels of the workforce by promoting proactive safety awareness and participation in safety programs.
- Encourage employees to report hazards, unsafe conditions, and safety concerns without fear of reprisal.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure that safety measures are integrated into all project phases.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related inquiries and concerns on power plant projects.
- Actively participate in pre-job safety meetings, tool-box talks, and site safety coordination meetings.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (preferred).
- Relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA 30-Hour Construction, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or similar) are highly desirable.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in safety management within industrial environments, with a focus on power plants, heavy construction, or similar industries.
- Proven experience working in refractory, insulation, and scaffolding operations is highly preferred.
- Knowledge and Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of safety standards, regulations, and practices in power plant and industrial environments.
- Strong understanding of refractory, insulation, and scaffolding safety procedures.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and influence others.
- Proficient in using safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical tasks related to safety inspections and audits in a power plant or industrial setting.
- Willingness to work in potentially hazardous environments, including heights and confined spaces.
