A Field Engineer level II (FE-II):
Perform as the Lead or team member during standard unit startup and commissioning tasks for new and retrofit projects and jobs.
Increase level of competence in all areas of boiler, pulverizer system operation and environmental equipment operation, performance, maintenance & design: The FE I will focus in the following areas as a minimum:
Pulverizer system operation, maintenance & performance
Coal fineness/distribution testing for performance & balance
Use Company standards to determine pulverizer performance and capacity for specific coal characteristics.
Determine A/C ratio by heat balance
Calibration of primary air flow device
Prepare characterization curves for the pulverizer
Burner testing & tuning
Inspection of pulverizers and burners
Boiler system operation, maintenance & performance
General utility & industrial boiler arrangements of economizer, generating bank, primary SH/RH final SH/RH and attemperator systems
Visual inspection of boiler systems noted above
Boiler performance testing
Collection and evaluation of boiler performance data including O2 grid
Use company engineering standards, ASME test codes and programs to determine boiler efficiency and air heater leakage
Environmental systems operation, maintenance & performance
Scrubber

Field Reports
Prepare detailed reports for inspection, testing, operationand optimization of equipment.
Participate in the troubleshooting and resolution of mechanical equipment and performance problems.
Become competent in the use of Company engineering standards and applicable ASME test codes.
Present customer training programs for operation and maintenance of new and retrofit products.
Participate in inspection of boilers and equipment
Assists District Service, Customer Service, Contract Service Managers or other company personnel with business development and customer relationship issues.

Position Qualifications
Other Requirements: Self-motivated, able to work independently, problem solving skills and ability, solution oriented, and has the ability to work as a team member. Agreeable to extensive travel on extremely short notice. Advanced knowledge of power plant equipment, and operations. Good leadership and interpersonal abilities.
Advanced knowledge of boiler operations including design, construction, operation and maintenance of steam generator systems and auxiliary equipment.
Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles such as heat transfer rates, combustion efficiency, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
Specific to advanced knowledge of Company products and services.
Specific knowledge of ASME and associated codes.
Ability to handle multiple activities (multi-task), good organizational skills.
Ability to prepare accurate and concise technical field reports.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes.
Good customer relationship skills, good written & oral communication skills.
Basic mechanical aptitude and skills such as the ability to use tools and measuring devices.
Ability to read blue prints.
Education | Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline, or similar degree. An Associate Degree with 5 years of relevant experience or 7 years of relevant experience may be considered as a substitute for the B.S. requirement. |
Experience | 5 years industry experience. 5 years Company experience, or 4 years other OEM plus 1 year company experience. |
Computer Skills | Must be familiar with the use of personal computers and specific applications required to communicate from remote locations and wireless or wired locations. Must also be proficient with Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes and other company and non-company specific software applications to perform one’s job. |
Certificates & Licenses | Knowledge of and compliance with company specific safety and health requirements and be able to pass an annual company required physical examination and OSHA regulations including lock-out/tag-out principles. |
